Chapter 52 - Reconciliation

Humberto
Things continued to evolve. Humberto had grown into quite a handsome young man. However, he had had enough of his parents constant bickering. He and Ana Denson, his high school sweetheart eloped as soon as he graduated.

He promptly informed his parents that he had married Ana and that they were moving into their own home.  He had already put a deposit down on a small little one bedroom starter home. Anything was better than living in a basement with a 17 year old geek, a baby crying all hours of the night and constant arguing. Delia was happy that he seemed to have found his way in life.

Goodwin didn’t seem to have an opinion one way or the other. He was just anxious to leave for work and seemed irritated he had to stay for the big announcement.  Delia could simply have told him later. Humberto is an adult – good grief – he doesn’t need my approval or permission.

Humberto was gone and little Pierre was already walking around and Alex's graduation was coming up. Time just seems to go by so quickly. It just seems like yesterday that she and Goodwin cured Alex and now his graduation was upon them.

Everyone, including a reluctant Goodwin dressed up and headed off to wish Alex well. Goodwin agreed to hold on to Pierre through the ceremony.  Delia was pleased. They needed some father/son time. He hardly paid any attention to him. So far Alex’s graduation was turning out to be a good day.

Delia thought back to the time when she left the hospital thinking Alex may not even survive and here he was, graduating with all of the other seniors, which included Tiffani, Goodwin’s secret daughter.  Alex was definitely very happy to be graduating.

Goodwin and Tiffani
Goodwin decided he needed to work on his and Delia's relationship and this was as good a time as any since he had to be here. He tried to be cheerful and even held the little brat kid. Thank goodness he was being still.

Tiffani still didn't know that she was Goodwin’s daughter although Tiffani had seen him at her house on several occasions. She was also friends with Alex and Humberto. After the graduation ceremonies, Goodwin went over to her and whispered to her to tell her mom he needed to talk to her.

After Graduation, they all went out for dinner to celebrate. Delia was pleased that Pierre seemed to be so content in his father’s arms. Maybe Goodwin just needed to wait until Pierre was older in order to properly bond with him.  Sometimes it is hard for men to bond with ‘baby blobs’ she rationalized.

That night, Delia tried very hard to not fight with Goodwin. They had hardly been with each other at all since she found out she was pregnant with Pierre. Mostly because he was never home she figured and when he wasn't gone, he had his head in a book. The last few years had definitely put a strain on their relationship.  She was determined to find that spark again.

She put Pierre in his walker, which he loved and she knew he would be satisfied in for at least 2 hours, and approached her husband.

She started by talking about France. That was such a wonderful time for them. She hoped the memories would soften him.  She was sweet and enticing. It had the desired effect. She soon found herself in a sweet embrace with Goodwin that she hadn’t really had since France. He took her to bed and they were together for the first time in so long.

She figured Goodwin must have been feeling guilty because afterwards he took care of Pierre. He put him in his sleeper and put him to bed.  Delia was content. She thought that maybe they were going to be okay after all.

Pierre was going to look an awful lot like Goodwin. He didn’t have a chance to have anything but blonde hair and blue eyes given his parents, but when Goodwin held Pierre; you could tell who his father was.

Goodwin had found some evidence in Delia’s home about where she may be keeping the ingredients.  He had needed to keep her close until he could figure it out.  This had been the perfect opportunity in Goodwin’s mind, instead of questioning him which irritated him beyond belief; she was being sweet and came on to him. So took her to bed and then took care of the kid. It made her happy. But now he felt guilty. He told Delia he was called into work and had to run. He kissed her on the forehead as she lay in the bed and left. Delia went to sleep happier than she had been in awhile.
