Chapter 47 - A Family Again

Delia got up the nerve to tell Alex that she planned to adopt Humberto. She explained he was really not that much different than himself. As a child Humberto had been without any parents at all. Now that he had a home here, she didn’t have the heart to ask him to leave. She had grown fond of him. If she adopted him, he could have a real home with them. Alex begrudgingly agreed to try to get along better knowing it was a done deal. Besides, he had other interests in the form of a cute girl he met at school named Jane. So it was done. She would start the process.

Delia called Goodwin to let him know the news. She was grateful when he said he would be right over, she wasn't so sure he was ready to see her. Goodwin put his arm around her and told her he wanted to take her somewhere special to celebrate. He didn't say where, but Delia was so happy to get out of the house for awhile that she didn't care. She felt like a weight had been lifted. 

They jumped in Goodwin's white pickup truck and took off. 

When he pulled up to the museum, she thought that was a strange place to go but figured it was quiet and beautiful and it would give her some much needed down time. 

When they went into one of the darkened exhibit halls, there was no one else around. Goodwin told her he had something he needed to say. He said he loved her. Then he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. It was time he said.  They had a child together however in the world that actually happened, but before even that, he had wanted her to be his wife. Life just got in the way. After the big fight they had, Delia was shocked. She wasn't sure what to say. 

He prompted her..."Say yes Delia".  She finally found her voice and squeaked out a yes. The look on his face when she said yes was complete contentment.  He had just made her a very happy woman.  Happier than she had been in the last 16 years since she found out her baby Alex was a ghost. Then he put a huge diamond ring on her finger. 


She hugged him and told him she loved him too and never wanted to be without him. He just smiled as she hugged him.

While Delia and Goodwin were at the museum, Alex invited Jane over. They were becoming quite close. She had even gone to the prom with him. 

The two of them were getting quite cozy on the couch when Delia and Goodwin got back to tell them the news. Delia walked in to find them making out in the living room. She cleared her throat and they quickly broke apart. But Delia was actually not upset at all.  

This was something quite normal for teenagers and for awhile she thought Alex might never have a normal life. So she was secretly happy, but didn’t let Alex know that!  It was time for Jane to go home.  It was actually a great ending to a great day.
