Chapter 20 – Bachelor Party Gone Wild

At Delia's insistence, Daniel moved forward with his wedding plans. The first order of business was a traditional bachelor party. The boys got together and mapped out the party. Delia could see them beginning to heal and get back into a normal routine. She was right. Moving forward with the wedding plans helped tremendously with moving on with their lives and brought that ever elusive normality back to it. Yes, a party without Francisco would be sad, she thought as a tear ran down her cheek, but how wonderful for Daniel and his brothers.

The party started out with a bang and lots of Daniel’s friends came.  The stereo was blasting, everyone was was dancing and champagne was flowing freely.

As it is with most Bachelor parties, someone invited dancing girls.  Darius tried to get some attention from one of the dancers named Cherry. She honored him with a dance since he was the brother of the groom. Probably the only reason. The party went on into the wee hours. Delia even relaxed and danced with one of the older gentlemen.  She didn’t want to be a party-pooper. This was Daniel’s day.

A few guests finally began to leave when the most unthinkable thing happened.  Someone pushed the coffee table too close to the fireplace and it caught fire. It was very reminiscent of Darius’s birthday party. The fire department got there quickly and put out the fire. Thank goodness no one was hurt. They cleaned up and went to be exhausted.

To add insult to injury, the very next morning the carpeting caught fire.  It must have been smoldering the remainder of the night. Duncan worked on putting it out while waiting for the fire department to come back and managed to get himself in trouble. Fortunately the fireman got there in time to save Duncan. Delia could not have handled another loss.

Regardless, Delia was devastated.  Two fires within hours of each other and nearly losing her youngest child. She felt YEARS older. Yes, she felt as if everything was catching up to her and the feeling of youth had long passed with Francisco’s death. She was now so depressed she was seriously thinking about trying the potion again.  Maybe it would make her feel better. But maybe wasn't good enough and it was way too risky anyway. She had a wedding to get through and two teenage boys and their raging hormones to deal with.  That was Francisco’s department; the birds and the bees.  She missed him so much. Well, potions would have to wait.  She had to learn to deal with things as they came and not rely on the silly elixirs. Maybe after Daniel and Liaona’s wedding she might consider it.  The basement would remain off limits for now.
