Delia and Goodwin were married
in the little Chapel in Twinbrook. It
wasn’t a large affair as Delia didn’t have a lot of friends, but the boys
invited their girlfriends and a few of Goodwin’s closest friends showed up as
well. Even though it was small, it was
still quite lovely.
They said their vows and exchanged rings. They kissed to complete the ceremony to the cheers of the few that were gathered.
Alex was absolutely thrilled that his mom was getting married while poor Humberto was simply overcome with emotion.
Goodwin had spared no expense as he wanted this to be something she would always remember. And it would be. Their wedding was so different from her other weddings. The rushed affair with Nicholas because she was pregnant and the intimate home wedding with her first true love Francisco. But Goodwin thought this was her first. He could never know that part of her past.
After the ceremony they went upstairs for the reception, with food, cake, drinks and dancing. Delia was afraid of getting a face full of cake, but Goodwin behaved and they were able to enjoy a civil slice of strawberry cake before they had their first dance.
When it was time for the
first dance as husband and wife, Delia couldn’t help thinking back to her first
dance with Francisco in her mom’s home.
That seemed like a lifetime ago.
Then she realized it was and that made her sad. But in a very special way, she still had
Francisco with her in Alex and in his spirit that sometimes paid all too real
visits to her.
Goodwin noticed her mood and said,"A penny for your thoughts Mrs. Goode." That brought her back to the present. Then he promptly proceeded to twirl her around, dipped her and kissed her – and all seemed to be right
again. The melancholy feeling quickly vanished.
The guests had all left and it was time to leave. Goodwin said he had one more surprise for her. He had booked a week long honeymoon in France so she needed to pack her bags. But he also had to tell the boys something before they left. Then Goodwin scooped her up and carried her out of the Chapel laughing as he went.
When they got home, Francisco sat everyone down and made the announcement. The adoption or adoptions were final. The adoption was for not just for Humberto to officially be Delia's son, but as her husband, Goodwin had also signed papers to officially become the father to Humberto AND Alex. Delia was touched and Alex was
surprised – he had not expected that from Goodwin. Delia was very happy. In a way, the whole family actually got married
today! All of them now had the same last
name – Goode; a very nice name to have indeed.
