Chapter 31 - Another Lost Love

That evening after Francie's graduation party, while cleaning up all of the dishes, the dishwasher decided to go on the fritz. Nicholas, ever the handyman, just plopped down and started working on it. Sadly, it would be the last thing he ever did for his family. He was immediately electrocuted.  

Poor Francie discovered the lifeless body of her Step-Father.  She came in from gathering dishes to find him in the floor – lying dead in the puddle of water that had leaked from the dishwasher. She was devastated and began to scream for her mom. 
   

She was not alone, both Delia and poor Aiden were also heartbroken. Delia would now have yet another fatherless child. She couldn't believe history was repeating itself and so soon. She must be cursed. She gathered herself and did her best to comfort both of her children. 









Francie seemed to be inconsolable no matter how much Delia tried to cheer her up. She was very depressed.  While Aiden,on the other hand, while sad, began to form a very strange bond with Coal. The cat seemed to be what helped him through losing his father at such a young age. At least he still had some family, Delia and Francie. 

As the three surviving family members tried to come to terms with the loss of Nicholas, Delia began to pack up his things. She found what would appear to anyone else to be just a polished stick. But she knew what it was. She had seen some just like it in the Elixir store. It was supposedly a magic wand used by witches. 

Vampires, Zombies, Ghosts and now Witches?  Did Nicholas fancy himself a witch and she didn’t know it?  Delia had her own special abilities - to see ghosts and make potions. She decided to try it to see what it would do. She waved it around and sparks began to fly. She felt a vibration deep within her and then she got dizzy and sick!  It must have some supernatural powers. But she didn't know how to use them. 

As Delia thought about what she had discovered about her 2nd dead husband, a thought occurred to her. Aiden! Aiden is Nicholas’ child. Could Aiden have inherited his father’s abilities to use the wand?  He must never know about this.  It will remain hidden in the secret room along with her recipes and potions. Her mother knew….she had tried to tell her as she lay dying. Eventually Delia would figure it out too. But for now, this too will remain a secret and she will keep a close eye on Aiden for any signs of 'powers'.  He must be protected from himself.
