Chapter 134 - Meeting Grandmother Dee

"Come on sweetheart. That is your Grandmother sitting there waiting for us. We have come this far we need to see it through. I am here. Don't forget that," said Cordell to his very nervous wife.

Delia sighed as her husband pulled her close. "Okay Genie. As long as you are by my side, I think I can get through this. Thank you...I guess." Cordell laughed and said, "Come on pretty lady, you have someone I think you really need to meet."
Dee glanced in the direction of the door when she heard it open. She knew she was only a few minutes away from meeting her granddaughter and the thought brought her more joy than she thought was possible. After nearly 200 years and more than 100 years of searching and finally giving up hope, she couldn't believe it was actually happening. She only wished her husband could be here for the reunion, but understood from the Genie that was now married to her granddaughter why that was impossible - for now anyway. A Fairy and a Genie, married with children. Amazing. Who would have dreamed that was ever possible, thought Dee while her granddaughter wrestled with the prospect of seeing her mother's mother.

When the adorable couple made their way to Dee's table she was shocked. Her granddaughter was a perfect blend of her mother and father as well as herself. She had her mother's beautiful blond hair plus Dee's own signature turned up nose. But her eyes. There was no mistaking where those beautiful blue eyes came from; her most handsome father, who lay in their home under a sleeping spell. Dee and Niall could not find it in their heart to awaken him. It hurt so much that after so long they had not been able to find Adele and his child, who was now miraculously walking over to her table.

Delia and her grandmother locked eyes. They were both speechless. Delia was shocked at how much she looked like Darius and Aiden; two of her children who long ago went to live in Heaven. They both had those same green eyes, now looking at her with such love; the same eyes that her mother also had. It was almost too much for Delia to take in. Thank goodness for her husband. He broke the uncomfortable silence with introductions which really were no longer necessary. The family resemblances for each woman was unmistakable.

Noticing the uncomfortable silence, Cordell started right in. "Delia, meet Delia Thorn, also known as Dee. Your grandmother. And Dee, this is my beautiful wife, Delia."

Delia looked at her grandmother as she turned to her husband with a huge lump in her throat. This was much harder than she even imagined. Delia wanted to hate her. But she found herself wanting to get to know more about her mother and her life. But she couldn't do that. This woman sitting next to her had continued to live with the man that took her father's life and caused her mother to live a life of loneliness.

Dee began to speak, "I have dreamed of this day for almost 200 years and given up hope of ever finding you. I am humbled that you agreed to meet with me. I can't begin to imagine what you must think of me and your grandfather."

Delia just looked at her speechless. What was she supposed to say to that? Fortunately her husband once again saved her from her from having to respond. "Why don't we go ahead and order. I understand the food is really good." said Cordell as he picked up the menu.  The rest of them followed suit as the Chef came and took their orders.

As they were finishing their meal in a strained silence, Cordell suggested they go upstairs to the bar and have a cocktail and talk. "Ladies, I know there are things both of you need to say to each other. Let's head upstairs and have a drink and we can talk."

"Great idea, Mr. Shinn," replied Dee.

"Please, call me Cordell," replied Cordell. Delia almost choked on her food and looked at her husband like he had three heads. They finished the meal in silence.

Once finished, Cordell paid for the meal and the trio went upstairs and ordered drinks. They found a secluded corner to sit and talk.

Once again, Cordell started the conversation after taking a big gulp of his martini. "Dee, I know my lovely wife has lots of questions about what happened so long ago. Maybe you can just start from the beginning."

The scorn on her granddaughter's face was hard to ignore so Dee followed Cordell's lead and downed the rest of her drink to give her the confidence to reveal all that had happened. She had hoped she would have her beloved husband beside her to go through the painful memories, but she knew that her namesake would never allow it. After she swallowed the last for her drink, Dee began.

"I married Niall Thorn almost 300 years ago. He was a prince at the time and soon took over the clan of fairies in Moonlight Falls, one of the most prestigious and powerful clans in the world. Looked up to by all." Dee paused before continuing. "We were - and still are - very much in love. True soul mates. We had grand plans for lots of children but I had a very difficult time conceiving. When I finally became pregnant with your mother, our whole clan was overjoyed. His line, our line, would live on.

Your mother was the golden child. So beautiful with her father's golden locks and my green eyes. She was a real princess. Your grandfather had hopes of her marrying another prince when she came of age which was the way of the fairies 200 years ago.

But darling, true love reigns supreme. You see, our daughter, your mother, she met your father, a human, her soul mate. I remember the day they met like it was yesterday."

Dee got a dreamy look in her eye and continued her narrative. "We were at the festival and she was learning to skate. The instructor was a very handsome human..."
